Tennis Town Named RSI's Pro/Specialty Retailer of the Year

Having grown up and played tennis in the Pittsburg area, Kent Johnson was aware that there had never been much of a tennis retail presence. As a teaching pro, during lessons, people would ask him where there could buy tennis equipment locally. So Johnson decided to open Tennis Town, which occupies a 1,300-square-foot space in the Pittsburg suburbs.

Q & A With New TIA President, Greg Mason

Greg Mason, the TIA’s new president, has been in the sporting goods industry for more than 25 years in a variety of senior management roles. Once again, the event will headline a full day of nationwide activities as part of Tennis Night in America, but in 2013, the BNP Paribas Showdown will also be part of a global tennis participation effort on the inaugural World Tennis Day.

Racquet Sports Industry Magazine Names 2012 “Champions of Tennis”

Susan DiBiase, the U.S. director of marketing for tennis company Babolat, has been named “Person of the Year” for 2012 by Racquet Sports Industry magazine in the publication’s January 2013 issue. DiBiase led off the magazine’s 12th annual “Champions of Tennis Awards,” which honors people, businesses and organizations dedicated to improving the sport and business of tennis.

USPTA Recognizes Leaders In Tennis

The United States Professional Tennis Association honored those who stand out and go above and beyond in all aspects of the tennis industry, from tennis coaches to players to volunteers during its annual national awards breakfast today at the USPTA World Conference on Tennis. USPTA, the world's oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals, is hosting its annual World Conference Sept. 16-21 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa in Monterey, Calif.

Venus Williams leads Washington Kastles to World TeamTennis title

CHARLESTON, S.C. (September 16, 2012) – Venus Williams led the Washington Kastles to their second consecutive World TeamTennis title today with a 20-19 victory over the Sacramento Capitals at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C.  Williams was also named the Finals MVP, winning her sets in women's doubles, mixed doubles and the decisive final set of women's singles.

USPTA names John Embree as new CEO/Executive Director

HOUSTON, TX (Sept. 13, 2012) – The United States Professional Tennis Association Board of Directors and Search Committee has hired industry veteran John Embree as the new CEO/Executive Director. Embree will take the administrative reigns from Tim Heckler, who will retire at the end of the year, after 30 years in the position. Embree will begin transitioning into his role as of Oct. 1and will be relocating to the national office in Houston on Nov. 1.
