Two key tennis industry conferences are set for March in Indian Wells, Calif., bringing together tennis industry executives, legends, pros, coaches and other sports and business personalities. The events are the 2015 Tennis Industry Association (TIA) Tennis Summit March 17-18, followed by the Tennis Owners and Managers (T.O.M.) Conference March 18-19. Both will be at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa and will take place during the BNP Paribas Open men’s and women’s pro tennis tournament.
The agenda and speaker lineup for the 2015 Tennis Owners & Managers (T.O.M.) Conference, scheduled for March 18-19 in Indian Wells, Calif., continues to take shape as experts in tennis facility management, programming, marketing, personnel, and other areas confirm sessions designed to help facility owners and managers maximize their bottom line. The second annual T.O.M. Conference will be at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, a few minutes away from the 2015 BNP Paribas Open men’s and women’s tournament taking place at the same time.
The Tennis Industry Association presented key industry research and information at the USTA’s annual Tennis Development Workshop (TDW), held Nov. 7-9 in Atlanta, Ga. More than 500 tennis providers from around the country attended the TDW, including USTA section and district staff and volunteers, local Community Tennis Association and park & rec personnel, teaching pros and coaches.
“On Court with USPTA,” a series on Tennis Channel, will feature episodes of Cardio Tennis starting on Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. (Eastern). The episodes will include play-based and drill-based activities, including the six components of a Cardio Tennis session.
While the industry-supported “Try Tennis Free” campaign will get a big push for May 2015, there’s no reason tennis providers need to wait six months to reap the benefits of bringing consumers to the game.
The TIA and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) are again working together to help bring to light the many great stories about tennis—those who play, teach, organize, sponsor and promote the game. The TIA will present the Second Annual “Tennis Media Award” to an NSSA member (either a sportswriter or sportscaster) who produces a story judged to be the most informative, interesting, and compelling about the sport of tennis or those involved in the sport.
Patrick McEnroe announced his resignation as general manager of the USTA’s Player Development program during a news conference at the US Open, after 6-1/2 years in the position.
Throughout September, new and returning tennis players will have the opportunity to hit the courts for free during the industry-supported "Try Tennis for Free" campaign. The effort, managed by the Tennis Industry Association (TIA), is being driven through the PlayTennis.com website, where consumers can quickly and easily find participating facilities and tennis coaches.
