The USTA announced in May that Nintendo has signed on as an Official Sponsor of the SmashZone Mobile Tour, the interactive tennis fan attraction which introduces children to tennis in a fun and engaging way. As part of the agreement, Nintendo, the worldwide pioneer in the creation of interactive entertainment, will incorporate video game kiosks into the SmashZone experience throughout the duration of the tour. The partnership launched at the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard, Calif., which was held on May 19 - 20.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame presented the 2011 Samuel Hardy and Tennis Educational Merit Awards on Saturday, March 17 during the International Tennis Hall of Fame Annual Awards Luncheon, which was held in conjunction with the USTA Annual Meeting in Carlsbad, Calif.
The 86th Annual National Public Parks Tennis Championships will be July 21-29 in Denver. The event—with competition for adult, junior, wheelchair and adaptive players—will be at the Gates Tennis Center and Denver City Park.

The TIA held key meetings last month during Tennis Night in America and the BNP Paribas Showdown in New York City. The meetings were organized to update groups on various initiatives, programs and objectives. The following day, a retailer focus group met first with manufacturers and TIA's Retail Consulting Specialists, then separately to discuss challenges affecting the retail sector and ways for greater involvement with the industry.
The USTA recently shared a report on national media attention that the 10 and Under Tennis initiative has been receiving. Among the highlights were a media tour of TV stations by 10 and Under Tennis spokesperson Christine Taylor, local coverage of “March Into Tennis” events in top markets, TV segments on youth programs, and extensive coverage of First Lady Michelle Obama playing tennis for the “Let’s Move!” initiative.
The Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program in New York City is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and its “40-Love” year-long celebration kicks off with a Celebrity Pro Am on May 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The event will bring together tennis greats, celebrities, and donors, all in support of HJTEP’s community services.
The USTA has unveiled a new "icon system" for its growing 10andUnderTennis.com website, allowing tennis facilities and providers to enhance their consumer search profiles. The new icon system makes it easier for parents and consumers to easily identify what programs and services tennis providers are employing in their 10 and Under Tennis programming. The 10 and Under Tennis message is being pushed to the mainstream via a strategic partnership with Nickelodeon, the largest co-viewed cable network among youth and adults, and the new "March Into Tennis" promotion, which kicked off in full force during Tennis Night In American on March 5 at the BNP Paribas Showdown.
