John Suchenski, the senior manager of programming and acquisitions at ESPN, is the newest member of the Tennis Industry Association’s Board of Directors. Suchenski oversees the network’s portfolio of tennis and golf properties and maintains relationships with the tournaments, event organizers, and other industry partners.
The tennis world went glam off the courts during US Open Finals weekend when more than 500 guests gathered on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City for The Legends Ball presented by BNP Paribas. The annual social event hosted by the International Tennis Hall of Fame celebrated tennis and honors some of the sport's greatest champions and contributors.
In a special ceremony on Sept. 9 at the US Open, the International Tennis Hall of Fame and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) honored former Hall of Fame CEO Mark L. Stenning by presentation of the 2015 Golden Achievement Award. The Golden Achievement Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions internationally to tennis in the fields of administration, promotion, or education, and who has devoted long and outstanding service to the sport.
Two years ago, the State of the Tennis Industry meeting in New York was the start of an examination of the health of our industry. Through subsequent Tennis Summits and Tennis Owners & Managers (T.O.M.) Conferences, the TIA brought the industry together to exchange ideas and open a dialogue on issues and concerns, which continues this year at the TIA Tennis Forum on Aug. 31 in New York City.

Dr. Timothy Russell has been appointed by the ITA Board of Directors as the new CEO of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, with his role set to begin on July 1, 2015. A special appointed ITA Search Committee, chaired by David Benjamin, worked closely with a highly respected executive search firm, GSI Executive Search, to successfully complete an extensive selection process.
Scott Fowler, a sports columnist for The Charlotte Observer, is the winner of the 2015 Tennis Media Award, presented by the Tennis Industry Association (TIA) in conjunction with the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). Fowler will be recognized at the NSSA’s 56th annual NSSA Awards Weekend in Salisbury, N.C., June 6-8.
The Tennis Industry Association is accepting nominations for the Tennis Industry Hall of Fame for 2015, which honors individuals who have made a significant impact on the sport of tennis. Nominations, which are due by June 1, can be in any of four categories: Inventors, Founders, Innovators or Contributors.
