The USTA has released an all new website, YouthTennis.com, to connect tennis providers and consumers to play opportunities for youth tennis. For consumers, it's quick and easy to find an event or a facility in your area, simply by clicking the "find an event" photo and/or button on the homepage of the website. For consumers to find events in their area, such as a Free Tennis Play Day, all they have to do is enter their 5 digit zip code and those events being held close to them are displayed in an easy-to-view format. The sign up process for providers to get their events listed is quick and simple, too.
The USTA today announced donations of goods and money to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts totaling more than $400,000.
Clothing, bottled water and other beverages, and needed supplies such as shampoos and soap, were collected from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and the USTA’s White Plains corporate headquarters and loaded on 16 pallets for delivery to the hardest hit areas in Queens. The USTA is working with the Queens Economic Development Corporation to ensure these critical supplies reach those in need.
TIA Cardio Tennis Manager Michele Krause, along with two National Cardio Tennis Speakers Team members, conducted a training workshop for staff and other professionals at the new Montgomery TennisPlex in Boyds, Md., on Sept. 14—the day before the facility had its Grand Opening celebration.
From USTA Reports -- United States Tennis Association (USTA) Player Development announced the release of 10 and Under Tennis Competency video resources to provide coaches, players and parents with a source on fundamental guidelines and skill proficiencies that young players, ages 10 and younger, should learn prior to progressing from one play format to the next.
The Tennis Industry Association’s Board of Directors met during the US Open and heard updates from several segments of the tennis industry, including a “state of the industry” report by TIA President Jon Muir, key industry research from Sports Marketing Surveys, and an update on the youth tennis initiative from the USTA.
As the 10 and Under Tennis/Youth Tennis Initiative continues to roll out, both the USTA and TIA have employed various monitors to track its progress. The USTA’s “10 and Under Tennis Dashboard” keeps tabs on participation aspects of the initiative, among other measures, while the TIA is tracking manufacturer shipments of red, orange and green balls. NEW YORK, NY (Sept. 5, 2012) — The tennis industry came together in New York City, just days before the US Open tennis tournament began, for The Tennis Show 2012, a one-day celebration of the "sport of opportunity."
Plans are underway for more than 1 million racquet hang-cards displaying youth tennis equipment educational messaging to hit the shelves of mass merchants, chain sporting goods stores, and pro/specialty tennis retailers starting later this year and into 2013. These racquet hang-cards, which clearly define age appropriate equipment and will be placed on youth tennis racquets, are a part of the National Youth Tennis Retail Promotion currently being coordinated by the Tennis Industry Association, in conjunction with and support from the USTA.
Reduced budgets, smaller, overworked staff and shortened hours of operation press Parks & Recreation Departments into exploring various methods to make ends meet. When it comes to tennis, though, developing relationships with local Community Tennis Associations can help a rec department save money, increase programming, fill their tennis courts, and open the doors for grants and scholarships.
The Tennis Industry Association continues to work closely with manufacturers, in conjunction with the USTA, to create a National Youth Tennis Retail Promotion, which helps educate both consumers and retailers in all channels on age-appropriate youth tennis equipment that consumers should be purchasing for their young players.
