March 4, 2013, will be an important day for tennis and the tennis industry across the globe. Some of the greatest champions in the game will take to the court during the BNP Paribas Showdowns in New York City and Hong Kong for a night of exciting tennis. The Showdown in NY will kick off the USTA's "Tennis Night in America," and StarGames Inc, the producers of the BNP Paribas Showdowns, has partnered with the International Tennis Federation to designate March 4 as "World Tennis Day" across the globe.
This month, leading sports and fitness industry companies and organizations, as well as other corporate partners, will launch PHIT America, a year-round, educational, advocacy, and social media marketing campaign designed to reach millions of Americans. Solid consumer spending in the month of December helped retailers finish the year with a healthy holiday shopping season, however economic uncertainties sent a cautious consumer to the stores.
According to the National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association, December retail sales (excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) increased 0.8 percent seasonally adjusted from November and increased 2.1 percent unadjusted year-over-year.

Tennis dealers are optimistic about the year ahead amid a challenging and evolving marketplace, according to the "Dealer Trends Report," which was recently released by the TIA to its participating partner membership. Tennis dealers have also seen a spike in consumer interest of youth tennis equipment in the past year. Once again, the event will headline a full day of nationwide activities as part of Tennis Night in America, but in 2013, the BNP Paribas Showdown will also be part of a global tennis participation effort on the inaugural World Tennis Day.
