Tennis Night in America & World Tennis Day set for March 4

March 4, 2013, will be an important day for tennis and the tennis industry across the globe. Some of the greatest champions in the game will take to the court during the BNP Paribas Showdowns in New York City and Hong Kong for a night of exciting tennis. The Showdown in NY will kick off the USTA's "Tennis Night in America," and StarGames Inc, the producers of the BNP Paribas Showdowns, has partnered with the International Tennis Federation to designate March 4 as "World Tennis Day" across the globe.

TIA Aligns with Sports & Fitness Coalition to Announce PHIT America

This month, leading sports and fitness industry companies and organizations, as well as other corporate partners, will launch PHIT America, a year-round, educational, advocacy, and social media marketing campaign designed to reach millions of Americans. PHIT America will combat the obesity and sedentary activity crisis -- which is having an adverse effect on health care costs in the U.S. -- by promoting new legislation and grassroots programs that will help get Americans more active, playing more sports, getting fit and becoming healthier.

NRF: Holiday Retail Sales Up 3.0 Percent

Solid consumer spending in the month of December helped retailers finish the year with a healthy holiday shopping season, however economic uncertainties sent a cautious consumer to the stores.

According to the National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association, December retail sales (excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) increased 0.8 percent seasonally adjusted from November and  increased 2.1 percent unadjusted year-over-year.

Tennis Retailers Optimistic About 2013 but Aware of Challenges Ahead

Tennis dealers are optimistic about the year ahead amid a challenging and evolving marketplace, according to the "Dealer Trends Report," which was recently released by the TIA to its participating partner membership. Tennis dealers have also seen a spike in consumer interest of youth tennis equipment in the past year. This  annual report serves as a barometer of dealer confidence in the industry as well as a "report card" for brands carried by the various tennis dealers across the country. The report also highlights key current issues, such as competition from online-only retailers, facing the tennis specialty retail market.

TIA Develops Lineup of Retail Centric Webinars for 2013

In an effort to provide tennis industry retailers with additional business enrichment services and opportunities, the TIA has developed a comprehensive line-up of webinars for 2013. These webinars, presented by Gluskin Townley Group, a retailer consulting partner of the TIA, cover a vast array of topic areas and providing tennis retailers with practical knowledge they can utilize in their business operations. BNP PARIBAS SHOWDOWN AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ON MARCH 4, 2013 WILL BE PART OF INAUGURAL WORLD TENNIS DAY

New York, NY (January 3, 2013) – The BNP Paribas Showdown brings tennis back to Madison Square Garden for the sixth time on March 4 featuring Grand Slam champions Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Juan Martin del Potro and Rafael Nadal. Once again, the event will headline a full day of nationwide activities as part of Tennis Night in America, but in 2013, the BNP Paribas Showdown will also be part of a global tennis participation effort on the inaugural World Tennis Day.
