Playtennis.com, which relaunched to consumers last month, is helping all types of players—whether current, new to the game, or returning to tennis—find everything they need to know about playing the “sport for a lifetime.” PlayTennis.com was developed through a cooperative industry effort and conveys a simple, unified message to get more people out on the courts more frequently.
The free, interactive website, which allows tennis players of any skill level to find tennis programs, courts, partners, teaching professionals, retailers, gear, and instructional content, has had nearly 100,000 individual visits in the last few months, with nearly 800,000 page views. More than 4,300 player profiles have been created on the site, and over 1,050 tennis-teaching professionals so far have created their own profiles to appear on the find-a-pro searches.
“If you’re into tennis or want to be, playtennis.com makes engaging in the game much easier and enjoyable,” said Jon Vegosen, USTA Chairman of the Board and President. “We appreciate all the support this site has received from the entire tennis industry.”
For tennis providers, such as teaching pros, tennis facilities and retail shops, the Tennis Industry Association worked to redevelop the portal GrowTennis.com, which is where providers input their data that will then appear in playtennis.com consumer searches. Tennis providers should go to GrowTennis.com to get listed and update/manage their data so consumers see the most current information.
In addition, everyone in the industry can access free playtennis.com marketing support materials, downloadable logos and ads/videos, as well as brand guidelines and a playtennis.com marketing checklist at TennisIndustry.org/playtennis.
To launch playtennis.com, the USTA and TIA collaborated with tennis industry partners, the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), Tennis Channel, TENNIS Magazine, and Tennis.com. Playtennis.com will be accessible on all digital platforms—computers, tablets, and mobile phones, including apps for iPhone and Android—making it easy for players to connect anytime.
All searches on playtennis.com can be done by anyone, whether they’re a registered playtennis.com user or not. In order to contact other tennis players, users will need to first register and create a profile, which utilizes the Facebook Connect feature. It takes only seconds to register and create a profile, and it’s all free.
Once registered, players will be connected to other tennis enthusiasts. Users just enter their ZIP code or city search, and specify the distance they are willing to travel to find what they are looking for. Playtennis.com will do the rest—deliver the most pertinent, up-to-date information to players in seconds. In addition, if a person is traveling he or she can use playtennis.com’s search features to find partners, programs, teaching pros, and places to play while on the road.
To support the website, commitment has been secured from the various industry manufacturers and organizations to have the playtennis.com logo appear on 30 million cans of tennis balls and 1.5 million tennis racquets, as well as other product packaging. The playtennis.com logo also will appear in television, online and print and social media messaging. In addition, the USTA has leveraged the Emirates Airline US Open Series, the US Open, USTA Sections and Tennis Service Representative support in promoting playtennis.com.
