As many parts of the country begin to recover from what was a substantially extended winter season and the first signs of spring began to show, racquet unit sales in the pro/specialty retail channels increased 2% in April.
"In what has been a challenging environment for the pro/specialty channel over the past year to year and a half it's an encouraging sign to see this uptick in racquet unit sales as tennis season kicks into high gear across the country," says TIA Executive Director, Jolyn de Boer.
Dollar sales in the same category were up 5% in April of 2013 over the same period the previous year, an encouraging sign for the pro/specialty segment. Through the end of of April 2013, year-to-date racquet sales are flat versus the prior year and dollar sales are up 1%.
The TIA's monthly pro/specialty retail audit measures tennis racquet sell-through in brick and mortar retailers across the country and tracks units sold, dollar sales, average price, in addition to the top selling brands.
