In October, Hilton Head Island, SC, will host two separate tennis industry events designed to provide educational opportunities to two different industry audiences to help grow the sport.
From Oct. 13 -14, the Tennis Industry Association (TIA) will hold its inaugural "Tennis Facility Owners & Managers Workshop.” Then, from Oct. 16 - 18, the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will host its "Directors of Tennis Conference." Both events will be held at the Sonesta Resort.
TIA Tennis Facility Owners & Managers Workshop is geared toward helping those who manage the overall operations of tennis facilities and clubs to maintain healthy profits. “The tennis marketplace and competitive landscape in the tennis industry continues to evolve,” says TIA Executive Director Jolyn de Boer, “and the TIA continues to focus our efforts on providing tools and resources to help tennis businesses remain competitive, keep on top of emerging trends, grow their businesses, and ultimately, grow the sport.”
Key focus areas for the TIA workshop will include successful staffing, profitable retailing, proven programming for adults and juniors, and utilizing technology to drive membership and retention. The TIA has secured a line-up of tennis industry experts to deliver the sessions, and roundtable discussions will allow owners and managers to share best practices, success stories, and experiences. The fee to attend this year's day and a half workshop is $295 and includes a happy hour on Saturday, Oct. 13, as well as a catered lunch on Sunday. The Sonesta Resort is offering a special rate of $149/night to workshop participants.
PTR Directors of Tennis Conference is geared toward Directors of Tennis and will be held from Tuesday to Thursday, Oct. 16-18. Experts will present on a wide spectrum of topics that will allow for a broad-based learning experience. Each day will close with roundtable discussions, so tennis directors can share their best practices on a variety of subjects. PTR will be offering a limited number of Dennis Van der Meer Scholarships to attend the event.
“We spoke with representatives in the tennis industry about the need to offer more of a business track dedicated to helping Directors of Tennis,” says Dan Santorum, CEO of PTR. “We believe this will strengthen our profession, tennis facilities and our sport.” PTR notes that the event will be the first-ever conference in North America geared specifically toward Directors of Tennis.
"We're excited about both the upcoming TIA workshop and PTR conference, which address two different segments of tennis industry leaders,” says de Boer. “As we do with all our industry partners, the TIA and PTR have a very close working relationship, and offering continuing education and business learning will only serve to help strengthen our industry.”
