Seven-time Grand Slam tournament champion John McEnroe has been named the 2012 spokesperson for “Tennis Night In America,” an annual celebration of tennis that includes youth registration events at facilities around the country and is highlighted by the BNP Paribas Showdown at Madison Square Garden on March 5.

10 and Under Tennis Hits Consumers in Major Push

At the USTA Community Tennis Development Workshop in New Orleans in January, Kurt Kamperman, the chief executive of Community Tennis, stressed that the USTA will “focus on fewer things that will create bigger results, and do them better.” In 2012, he added, that means concentrating on 10 and Under Tennis.

Global Tennis Rule Change Jan. 1 for 10 and Under Tennis

On January 1, 2012 the rules of tennis officially will be changed and require that 10 and Under Tennis tournaments be played utilizing smaller, lighter racquets and lower-bouncing balls on smaller courts. The change was adopted by the USTA in the summer of 2010.
