USTA Plays Role in annual White House Easter Egg Roll

April 6, 2010 · No Comments

The USTA recently took part in the 2010 White House Easter Egg Roll in coordination with new company Baby Goes Pro, and helped facilitate and present an interactive sports experience on the White House’s South Lawn for children on April 5, 2010. Celebrating this year’s White House Easter Egg Roll theme “Ready, Set, Go!,” the USTA  joined forces with the company to create an interactive QuickStart Tennis event for kids to support the First Lady’s initiative to fight childhood obesity.

As part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s ongoing “Let’s Move” initiative, Baby Goes Pro, founded by tennis Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez and business partner Valerie Stern, were invited to create the “Explore the Moves Sports and Obstacle Course” and several interactive exhibitions including tennis, golf, baseball, basketball and soccer to promote health and wellness through sports participation.

To ensure a proper demonstration of tennis for kids, the USTA partnererd with tennis legend Billie Jean King, Tennis Hall of Famer Gigi Fernandez, Liezel Huber and former professional tennis players Katrina Adams and Ilana Kloss. Developed to keep kids active and expose them to tennis at an early age, QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format that introduces kids to tennis by scaling down the game to better fit the needs of young children by utilizing smaller balls, racquets and courts.

The largest public event held at the White House, the annual Easter Egg Roll  included the participation of 36,000 lucky children age 12 years and younger with their families, and featured interactive sports exhibitions, live music, cooking stations, storytelling, the “Explore the Moves Sports and Obstacle Course,” and traditional Easter egg rolling, all to encourage children to lead healthy and active lives.
